red foley,homer&jethro,pee wee king,maddox bros&rose,doc&chickie williams,hank thompson
j.e.mainer, carter family, jeannie seeley, norma jean, jean shephard just wondering if anybody

Foley and Homer & Jethro got their national start at the same place: the Renfro Valley Barn Dance. They also have another connection: Chet Atkins. During the war, Chet (who had asthma and therefore couldn't be drafted) was Foley's guitarist, and of course he was also Jethro's brother-in-law. Favorite Foley song is the very forgotten but fun "Cincinnati Dancing Pig."
Pee Wee King is a great story: a Polish guy born in Milwaukee and living in Louisville who records the state song of Tennessee! (BTW, among Pee Wee's lead singers in the Golden West Cowboys: Eddy Arnold and Cowboy Copas. Homer & Jethro also briefly toured with him in the late 30s!)
::sigh:: Rose Maddox is my favorite female singer, bar none. They were so much fun to listen to. "That's friendly Henry, the working girl's friend!"
Doc & Chickie: Doc was headquartered in Cleveland and was quite the regional star there (back in the days when people could make a very good living just by being "regional stars"). He's still alive -- nearly 96 now!
Hank Thompson: Navy boy.
Have you heard that album of Mills Brothers songs he did? Great stuff!
Mainer's Mountaineers: Great old-time act. Wade Mainer just turned 103!
Carter Family: They're the first family of country music for a reason.
Jeannie Seely: Great songwriter, nice lady.
Norma Jean: I used to think her first name was "Prettymiss" because that's the way Porter always introduced her. I met her at Porter's memorial. She still looks fabulous, and is still working!
Jean Shepard: long, long, LONG overdue for induction into the Hall of Fame.
