He used to be. Now he's a Hemingway type. Everyone is out for themselves. Blah blah blah.
So he collapsed into cynicism and negative thought, because all the psuedo-intellectuals think like that. Shame, really.
From 1960-1975 or so, he was one of the greats and his work from then will be regarded highly. After that, not so much. It seems his creativity was tied to his voice. As it degenerated, so did his ability to write.
