You can discipline without using force, pain or fear tactics. The trouble is yelling, hitting or scaring only makes the dog fear YOU, it doesn't make them stop the behavior all you are doing is reinforcing this behavior so it continues.
Now when you say piss on the ground do you mean that the dog is not housebroken yet? Because I'm quite sure you wouldn't be getting mad if they were peeing OUTSIDE. If they are having accidents in the house then your the problem NOT the dog. If your dog is not housebroken then you haven't taught him to potty properly. Dogs aren't mind readers and they cannot communicate and say "Wait, I do not understand what it is your teaching me." nope instead they communicate that sentence by peeing on the floor, in other words "Wait, you are confusing me I do not understand what it is you are trying to teach me."
Now, if that's happening then you aren't getting the dog out enough to potty, you are going too long between potty breaks and your dog cannot hold it. If you are praising them when they potty outside, giving them ample opportunities to get outside to do their business and ignoring them when they have an accident then there shouldn't be a problem, however, if you are smacking, hitting, waiting too long between bathroom breaks then the dog is going to fear eliminating in front of you and will wait until they are out of your site before pottying.
Housebreaking is all about PREVENTION not PUNISHMENT. So next time you see them circle, sniff and squat clap your hands and say OUTSIDE and immediately take outside to potty, when they do reward and praise and bring back inside.
So adjust the time you take them out, they might be left too long and depending on age cannot hold it.
When it comes to housebreaking, there is no alpha dog, it's not a matter of your the boss so you do as I say, NOT in housebreaking. You show your the boss by giving rules boundaries and limitations, you eat first, you walk thru the door first, you make them wait to eat and only eat on your command etc. Being alpha dog does not work for housebreaking. Just get him out enough to be successful, ignore accidents, dogs make mistakes, you make mistakes you gotta lighten up.
