Will I like the Charlie Parker series by John Connolly?
After reading the Book of Lost Things, I was absolutely entranced and dove head first (not literally) into the Black Angel, without realising it was part of a series. I thought it started well, but the end, I really didn't care much for the story. There was far too much background information on characters for my liking, and though I got the overall gist of the plot, I found it dense and the writer's prose rambling. I'm about to read Nocturnes, but wonder if I should to back to Charlie Parker. I liked the character, just not the book, and from what I can gather from Amazon reviews, the Black Angel is not representative of the series as a whole. I quite like crime/mystery novels - my favourite author is Harlan Coben (I just love the Myron Bolitar books!) and have a pretty strong stomach so don't mind violence. I'm also thinking of starting the Alex Cross novels by James Patterson.
I also like Peter James' books.
Giving an author a second try is always a good idea. I read a lot and there is almost always one book in any series / author's catalog that I hate, no matter how much I love the rest of the books.
It's often a good idea, too to start at the beginning of a series, if you can. The later ones can make more sense that way.
Perhaps borrow some of them from the library? That way, if you don't like them, you can return them and you haven't wasted more than just a little time.
From what you say, you might well like James Patterson. Although,if you don't like one of his books, don't give up - try a different series. The various series are amazingly different from each other.
Btw, have you read Michael Connelly? I think you might like those too.
