R&P...fans of late 60's/early 70's UK Rock...what do you think of the 'Edgar Broughton Band'?
I rarely see these guys mentioned here in R&P, and felt they deserved a little recognition.
The Edgar Broughton Band were a part of the late 60's UK Progressive, Psychedelic and Hard Rock movement. They were also the first band to appear on EMI's new 'Harvest' record label at the time...a label that eventually featured Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Barclay James Harvest, and The Move, as some of their earliest acts.
Here's a video that I've complied using pictures taken of my record collection, combined with a few band pics I found online. It features two songs; 'Mad Hatter' and 'House Of Turnabout'...both of the songs can be found on their 3rd album release which was self titled (1971)...
What are your thoughts on this band?
Are there any other Edgar Broughton Band fans here in R&P?
Never heard them but I dig it... They're kind of a The Move/ Mad River hybrid to my ears... I like 'House Of Turnabout' a lot more than 'Mad Hatter' which I liked but thought needed a tempo change somewhere to make it more interesting. Fascinating lyrics overall, I definitely want to pay more attention to them upon my next listen. 'Turnabout' could have been longer as I felt there were more places to go with it, but that's only because I liked it so much. I will definitely be listening again and searching for more music by them.
