Is the Gibson SG Special Faded with three p/u a great Metal/Hard Rock Guitar?
I found one at the local music shop and i tried it without amplifier and it felt great.
But is it any good as a Metal or a Hard Rock guitar?
The only 3-pickup SG I'm aware of is the Custom VOS Series, which are not faded specials. So let's just talk about the guitar itself for a minute:
At $699 (GC) it's a one of the best values for the dollar in many years. The whole discount-faded finish Gibson line is going away as soon as the economy improves, so grab it while you can because you'll never get a Gibson anywhere near that cheap again (besides a Melody Maker).
Now, if you're looking at something used and/or modified, the answer really depends on the specifics. What are the mods and the price?
And yes... it's a great Hard Rock guitar. I personally think it's a good metal guitar, but I am not a metal person at all. The real Metalheads will be on here touting their Ibanez/Jackson/ESP/Chinese crap, but I would stick with the classics if I were you. The guitar doesn't play the music... YOU do. So get yourself a GOOD axe and then play what you want to play. Your tastes will change as you mature anyway.
