Who do you like? Steeleye Span is my all-time favorite. If you're American or Canadian, how did you get into it?
I first got into it when visiting a friend in London in the late 1970s. She had the 3-disc record setThe New Electric Muse (a second set came out later). I had to go out and buy it. Over the years, I and then my kids wore the records out. A few years ago, after a long search, I got another set. We referred to it as "The Holy Grail".
I discovered Scottish and Irish Folk about 10 years ago {the Rough Guides CDs are great starting points!}, and now have quite a nice collection.
My uncle has been into Englis Folk since the 60's {he's a Maddy Prior fan}, and last year I borrowed one of his compelation albums. I particularly liked the Steeleye Span tracks, and the wonderful Sandy Denny.
For the last year I just had the handful of songs from that album, but a few months ago I decided to expand my collection. So I downloaded a couple more Steeleye Span songs, and I'm currently listening to Sandy Denny ~ 'No More Sad Refrains: The Anthology' to select some more of her songs.
