Can God forgive me for all the stupid things I've lived through my teen life?
This is a odd question but I got to thinking about an hour ago after I finished 2 cigarettes outside looking up and thinking about all the retarded things I do and have done and things I probably will do in my lifetime and I just get scared. I love Jesus will all my heart and would die for my belief and I believe that he died on the cross for me and I know what I do is wrong, but I just do it anyway. Addiction is a sin and getting drunk is a sin and I realize that, but I just seem to do it anyway. Getting drunk for me is rare now because I hate who I am when I'm drunk but I still drink. Some of you might think I need some major help if I want to call myself a Christian when I'm committing these acts but it makes me want to cry because I know he hates me when I do it. I pray a lot and try to ask him to help me cope with things in life because it's been a rough year for me. I just need to know that he's listening.
You are a Christian because of your saving faith in Christ, not because you are a "good person" and don't do this or that.
The main reason you should not get drunk is because of the physical and mental effects of doing so. Not because God is going to yank salvation from you.
You will find some Christians who straighten themselves up and proudly proclaim that they don't smoke, drink or cuss ... as if these are the trifecta of the big, bad sins.
These are people who, sadly, focus on one (or three) particular areas of concern, while ignoring anger, malice, jealousy, bitterness, fear, backstabbing and other issues of the heart.
It's far easier to crush out a cigarette than it is to walk across the room and talk to someone who everyone else tries to avoid.
Read through Romans 7 and check out Paul's struggle to do what is good and not do what is wrong. Then check out the following chapter. Romans 8 gives you a good idea of how you stand with Christ.
And, for the record, drinking alcohol is not a sin. Getting drunk is. Smoking cigarettes is only a sin inasmuch as it is wrecking your body .... but then so is eating a Quarter Pounder with Cheese.
Believe me. There are probably other areas in your life that God wants to work at first. Smoking? Sure God would like to to quit .. for your own sake. But get with Him and let Him point out what He'd * really * like to work with you on.
If you are abusing alcohol, you should check into getting some help. This isn't for your salvation. It's to keep you alive!
He's there. He's listening. And He's ready to get to work.
