Is this the solution to the Harry Potter invisibility cloak problem?
Most of the theories about what will happen in book 7 that contradict them. For example, some people think that Harry is a hoarcrux, but if that were true, Voldemort would not want to destroy him.
So here's my theory, no contradictions:
Fact: Something almost killed Voldemort the night James and Lily died.
Fact: Voldemort had hoarcruxes already at that point.
Fact: James gave Dumbledore his invisibility cloak for Harry.
Fact: Lily stepped into the Avada Kedavera meant for Harry.
My theory that reconciles these facts: James found out that when someone willingly takes the Avada Kedavera for someone else, that the curse backfires, killing the one using the curse. James and Lily sent Pettigrew to Voldemort to lure him to Godric's Hollow, with the intent to kill Voldemort by sacrificing themselves. They did not know about the hoarcruxes, which is why the plan failed. Harry will find out about this plan and try to finish the job in book 7, after destroying hoarcruxes.
There is a problem with your theory, James couldn't have found out "when someone willingly takes the Avada Kedavra for someone else that the curse backfires, killing the one using the curse" because that had *never* happened before. That was an unexpected consequence of Lily's choice. Voldemort knew of (but had forgotten at the time) that such a sacrifice would give the intended target a lasting protection, but until that moment that protection had never saved someone from an Avada Kedavra. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, during the Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson about the Unforgivable Curses, Professor Moody specifically states that Harry is the only person known to have ever survived the Killing Curse. That is why he is known through out the Wizarding World as The Boy Who Lived.
Also, James and Lily were both very talented, intelligent and brave, so they obviously would have put a lot of thought into their decision. They would have considered all the possibilities since their lives and the life of their only child was at stake. They even had the benefit of being close to Dumbledore, who could've given them advice about their plan. So, let's ask ourselves some questions they might have worried about before acting on this dangerous plan. If they had planned to sacrifice themselves and had successfully killed Voldemort, who would be left to raise Harry? Remember James had no relatives and Lily only had Petunia - who hated her! And why would TWO sacrifices be necessary anyway? Wouldn't ONE sacrifice be adequate for the protection to work? And how could they predict that Voldemort would give Lily the opportunity to live, so she could refuse? What if he planned to use the Cruciatus Curse to get them out of the way and kill Harry without them having the chance to sacrifice themselves for him? Plus, with all the methods of killing to choose from, what if Voldmort didn't use the Avada Kedavra at all? He could've used a poison or a cursed item or some other curse, hex, or jinx. I bet he'd approve of Snape's Sectumsempra, for example.
Sorry to disagree with you, but I think that the Potter's had no idea of the benefit Harry would get by sacrificing themselves to protect him. I think they hid in Godric's Hollow hoping to avoid contact with Voldemort. And when Lily refused to stand aside when Voldemort gave her the choice, it wasn't to save her son, but an act of defiance against the wizard that had just murdered her husband and planned to murder her son. She could've stepped aside, but preferred not to live without her husband and son. I'm sure she thought that he'd kill her and then Harry.
Harry will seek and destroy the remaining Horcruxes, with help from Ron and Hermione, and I'm guessing either Kreacher or Draco, and will then have his final show down with Voldemort.
